Problem Statement

While wanting to book a trip to any destination, one has to select a predefined package set by the travel agency. Your interests and preferences are not taken into consideration.

Research

Competition:

There are a lot of companies that cater to organising trips and holidays. They have a limited number of packages from which one can select.

Take away:
Your preferences are not taken into consideration. There are limited number of options one can choose from. To get any further information, you have to contact the service provider after which they will get back to you as per their convenience.

Interviews:

“My husband and I love food and are always looking for an opportunity to explore new cuisine. Locally made delicacies are the best. We are on a constant lookout for those”
-Nalini Seth

“I try to see a few tourist places, try the local cuisine
try to understand the place culturally, take a few photographs and  buy souvenirs”
-Mansa Venkatesh

“ The usual tourist attractions are fine but getting lost in one of the lanes and stumbling on an unexplored treasure are some of the most memorable parts of my trips ”
-Samaira Keith

Solution

Include filters mentioning preferences that the user can select. User can mention any additional details that they would like. These would be sent to the travel experts who will keep all of your requirements in mind and design a tailor made itinerary ust for you.

“Each trip is handcrafted to your liking
Just the way you dreamt it”

User Journey:

Created a journey such that the user has an option to go with a predefined trip or add customisations based on their preferences.

Designing:

Wireframing:

I scoped up Travelslick's competitors and observed which layouts worked best. I finalised on 1 layout after sketching multiple. This helped me try different possible designs without having to look too deep into the details

Mockups and Prototyping:

Once the wireframe was defined, I moved to designing the detailed site and prototyping it. Being a travel site, the visulas would primarily be photographs. Keeping this in mind, I made sure to have the information hierarchy such that the txt information and photographs are not overshadowed by each other.

Customisations can vary from person to person. Therefore I wanted to clearly mention what the base package would include.

Visual Identity:

To create a system where the brands emotion and values are reflected.

Typography:
Montserrat Alternates and Roboto

Colours:

Challenges

Since this was one of my first freelance projects, I was still new to client communications. To keep all their design preferences in mind while standing my ground. I had to design for what they need and not necessarily what they want.

OUTCOME

The client received a digital identity for his brand. He was able to visualize how his product would look and function in reality.

KEY TAKEAWAY

- To take control of the project / keep a set number of meetings to avoid multiple design changes in the middle of the process. To send in for approval only once a section is completed.

- Client - designer relationship: Since this was my first external client, I learnt a lot of new things such as

- Getting approvals at milestones is better than having them involved on a day to day process.

- Involving engineering upfront: Knowing the limits of the developing process leads to lesser number of iterations in your    design strategy.
