Every person has preferences for what kind of entertainment they want to consume. But there's always the dilemma of which is the one you really want to attend. In a sea of options how is one supposed to find what they are looking for?
AirAsia RedTix caters to a variety of events across various genres and locations it was important that the user should be able to search for the event of their liking as quickly and efficiently as possible.
I conducted interviews where I asked my friends and colleagues some of the following questions:
1. What is the first thing you look for when you plan on going out?
- Venue
- Category
- Date
2. How much in advance do you plan if you are attending an event?
- Depends on popularity of event
- About a couple days prior if the same city
- Way in advance if it’s in a different country.
3. What would you want to know about any event taking place?
- Price
- Genre
- Location
Ticketing platforms generally displayed their events based on popularity and the events taking place the soonest.
Other filters they used were location and categories such as talks, workshops etc.
1. Create a function for the user to sort events based on preferences such as nearest date, price.
Implement filters such as month, location, categories which lead you to an event best suited for you.
1. Designed for easy filter and segregation of categories.
2. Created flows and designs depending on the priority of information to be included.
3. Design the event cards keeping the priority of information users want to see in mind and include it.
4. Find your perfect pick
The categories on top were based on the research regarding the kind of events AirAsia RedTix catered to and the the preferences people seeked out as their first priority.
I designed dynamic filters which showcase results based on whether you searched ot applied filters first.
This along with the vice versa scenario was a little tricky to figure out but with the questions that my product manager and Senior designer posed, helped he think of possible solutions.
Defining categories and filters - how to segregate them and display them based on user priority. Functionality of search when filters are applied. Prioritising search depending on the order of search and filters being applied.
Based on internal and external testing, most people were able to find an event of their choice and it didn't take them very long to find it.
This led to more traffic on the site and designed filters for the other pages - venue and collection pages.
Putting the user first came naturally to me.
I had a lot of questions during the process but would be shy to ask them. With the encouragement of my supervisor I opened up more about the questions I had which helped me create better solutions.
While coming up with solutions for the questions, I realised of the n- number solutions there could be. I would ask my Senior designer and product manager for their opinions and they would counter question my design decisions. Moving forward as I would ideate the plausible solutions as user journeys I would assess the pros and cons of each and I began to question my solutions giving me an insight to multiple scenarios a user could be in situations
